Reasons I can write on my blog whilst on holiday
1. It's too hot to leave the house
2. My boyfriend is snoozing
3. I AM living in the moment
Am actually a bit excited about moving to coffs and starting my new job, did I mention it's my DREAM JOB, not that one should live to work, but it's nice to get it and have a go at it and develop it, and be assertive with it, before I start my alternative career of invisible, marginalised working mother (see this blog for examples of what it can be like to be educated and back to scratch), in fact my fear of this happening is what started all the study and the current immersion in swim teaching. But there was finally a sensible idea about how to come up with funding for maternity leave that is as "fair" as the baby bonus (everyone gets it), is fair to high income professionals or those out of the work force, and is fair to businesses and doesn't discourage them from hiring child bearing age women: and that's a kind of tax or levy, like the emergency services levy or medicare, that is taken out of salaries and builds up a fund. Interesting.
Haven't been doing much reading but can recommend the latest book by Curtis Sittenfield and also the latest Belle Du Jour book; Benny from Fullers Bookshop also recommended David Mitchell and Kurt Vonnegut so will give that a go when I am solitary again. Had fun finding loungeroom furniture for AJ, he now has a cool brown wood side cabinet to display his old radios on and a day bed option for lying on and reading the papers). Am jealous of the cabinet; St Vinnies here is so cheap for furniture, wish it was for my future house...
Other than that, spending most days at the swimming pool getting teaching prac; it has been such a good way to interact with the locals and be in the company of some of the quality people; helps me keep cool and not spend too much money.
