Writing more

The other week, I got some good advice and although it was in a work related sense, it kind of relates to the private world too. Get it down and get it out of your head. So, what to write about? Things I am reading, things I am doing, the fun I am having with my son. He is into hide and seek now. Shouting boisterously. Being more gentle too-at Carrick Hill he spent several minutes gently playing with Annie, stroking her hair and trying to get her to wear his hat. So chivalrous. He also tried to wrestle with her twin brother. We met the mums and babies up there, on such a sunny afternoon, such a civilised place, with it's views over the city. We rested in a shady spot and barely made much use of the gardens, or explored their corners or viewed their animal sculptures, just because there was so much to talk about. Because my son had taken his trike, all the other children wanted to pay attention and see if they could have a turn. Brilliant. Bike buying votes. My husband has admitted ...

Presents from in-laws

Tomorrow my husband and I have to take kid to a 2nd birthday party, for friends of ours. It's at 10am, I applaud them for going boldly and scheduling an early party, also for holding it as a picnic (nice and easy, focus is on social, not food). But I haven't made an effort to make intended quiche and agreed with husband we should do it tomorrow, before we go. But I suspect he doesn't realise we are due so early! Plus it's pageant day, and we have to walk into gardens as a consequence (which we would do anyway, but no second option of travel). Other news? I have gone crazy requesting DVDs at library. Was embarrassed to walk into library and see I have a shelf area cordoned off. Had been searching by actors and requesting anything said actor had been in; some real duds-a lot of Luke Wilson & Adam Sandler films "inadvertently" requested. Plus DVD isn't working. What turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable was Saturday Night Fever, which I borrowed becau...

And I love him

Sometimes I suspect I write posts that later I will cringe about: bang on too much about someone or something, etc. Before I had my son, I used to avoid people banging on about their kids-partly because of envy, whilst we were trying to start for a family, and partly because some people are banal, no matter the topic. And if you're not banal, if you're interesting, then you could write about making a sandwich and I'd enjoy reading it. But when I wrote about my child, well it's not with an intended audience. I just write, write because he will be young for such a short time and already he is growing so fast. Want to capture it. Right now he's awoken from a nap under his toy mobile, peed all over himself (a happy event for him) and started swinging at his favourite toys. His mobile has suspended butterflies and each time he sees them he smiles. He was great on the returning trip from Robe today, slept for ages then played with his teddy bear and rattle, concentra...

6 weeks baby

Lu is certainly growing. New things we notice about him: When he wants to feed he licks his lips, smacks them, rolls his tongue around, does imitations of eating When he is sleepy, he yawns lightly, changes his body motions from alert to jerky, pretends to fight sleep but happily lets himself get cuddled When he is happy, he chats and enjoys playing with soft toys that dangle from the toy bar, he does pretend boxing Bowel motions can be preceded by long hours of vocalisation-grunts and groans, sometimes squawks, that he will sleep through. An actual bowel motion will result in him being blissed. After feeds, he closes his eyes, flops his arms and looks happy with his mouth closed. Smiles are starting-first practiced from wind, he can now smile-about being fed, about being played with. He is gaining strength-he rests an arm on my arm, looks around out of the sling, uses his legs to try and topple his toy bar, kicks around on the change table, enjoys tummy time. His heari...
