George Clooney does McCarthyism/Book Club Recos

So on the 14th November I was thinking how much I wanted to learn more about the McCarthyism era, having read Douglas Kennedy's excellent book The Pursuit of Happiness. Read some of Arthur Miller's essays to learn more. And then just as I was thinking that Mr Clooney was overrated, he's directed a new film set in that era: Good Bye and Good Luck. Can't wait to see it.

Other book club recommendations are The Jane Austen Guide to Relationships, by Lauren Henderson and Proto-Zoe, by someone or other. The latter is very funny, the author has created a precocious and observant worldly child character. The former is quite good to, she describes how good Jane Austen was at creating male and female characters and what we can learn about relationships. Was relieved that her quiz assessed me as an Elizabeth Bennet type (shows all that character building has paid off) . Apparently the man in my life most resembles Henry Tilney, Captain Wentworth or Mr Bingley (?!).

Proto-Zoe - that's by Amanda Prantera. There's a sequal, Zoe Trope, about the same girl as a teenager. Very funny, and a bit like a girly Evelyn Waugh, if that makes sense. Sorry about hassling you about your music, by the way.
