going steady and having sensible friends who understand

Andy and I reserve the right to not confirm to society expectations about engagements or weddings. We are going steady and he has accepted my need for him to spend his life savings on a beautiful ring that may or may not fit the "e" finger best. If society can't understand our love, then so be it.

Or as P says "I support you in your move to wear this ring of rings on any finger, or even through your nose!"

She suggests associating with more people who defy convention, citing nudists:
"I am inclined to think they are onto something. Without your attire you are but as everybody else is. There is no judging a book by its cover or such silliness, there can be no tipping of hats, or men lying their jackets down so ladies can walk over puddles without getting their petticoats wet... but that would be a world without chivalry, where the only way to tell if someone was a gentleman would be to wait untill you saw them drinking Boags St George."
