tips for lino printing

One of the hunter island members, Diane Foster went to a print-off-athon called Central West Print Focus January 12–15, held by Bathurst and Orange Regional Art Galleries . I found her tips for lino printing from her review of a workshop held by Tim Winter:

"I attended a colour relief printing workshop at Tim Winter’s studio in the historic Railway Hotel in Stuart Town – NO AIR CON, NOT EVEN A FAN, but I survived! Tim, together with Greg Hyde, showed us a range of colour relief printing techniques...It was in the middle of no-where with a large country pub, several houses and a public loo which we had to use – all very quaint. Tim pays $10 per week rent for several rooms and a kitchen. More rooms are available for artists to rent. In this workshop we used oil-based inks squeezed from large cartridges. Tim prefers to buy ink in these cartridges rather than tins which can get a skin and go off easily. We also used slightly damp Stonehenge paper (unusual for relief printing) as it prevents the colours going glossy. Release tape from Bunnings was also very useful for registration. Lino plates were cleaned with vegetable oil and vinegar followed by a final spray with Windex. We learned how to register the plates for a third colour, drawing on to the lino with the colour we planned to use. Tim, too, only prints with one blanket, on an Enjay press. ‘You print with ink, not pressure’. "

Still have no idea where Stuart Town is, but want to move there.
