My connection to Brett Whiteley
My current genre of reading is ART, either artist at the subject (have reserved Alex Miller's new book, read Girl with the Pearl Earring etc) or biographies of artists like Lee Miller and now Brett Whiteley.
BW as a character might not be that interesting, maybe Wendy is the most intriguing character for outliving them all, but as a life led, it's an amazing story. His studio is one of my favourite places in Sydney; I probably like his drawings best outside of the Lavender Bay paintings.
So I'm reading the unauthorised biography, get up to the bit where he dies (sorry for treating this like fiction) and discover that the coroner was my friend's Dad! How come she never told me? It's a weird but cool little connection, not so much the reflected glory, but the link it provides.
