Will red boots really make me happy?

Got into Adelaide late Friday arvo and had the blissful reunion with boyfriend and really couldn't be bothered to do more than eat takeaway Indian in bed. And why would you?

But on Saturday we went to good old Trims, home of many a pair of Doc Martens from yesteryear and bought zip up rust red boots. Boots that fit! That zip up without liposuction, yeehah! It's not even that my calves are particuarly large. That afternoon as we sipped wine in Louise's lovely North Adelaide cottage courtyard and I shared this problem of shoes with her, she pulled up her jeans to show me her problem calves. This is a girl with long legs that always look good in either skirts or Bettina Liano jeans (which are designer for "need skinny legs") and yet she too has trouble getting boots to zip up. I hate to use my blog to make a despairing fashionista entry, but zip up boots are pretty much essential to get away with wearing skirts outside of summer in Hobart.

L and her boyfriend were in fine form, talking of recent camping trips to Deep Creek and their desire to relocate further south; I remembered how badly they coped on our camping trip to Mount Remarkable when they couldn't find an open pharmacy and wondered if this really be the case. But this is uncharitable-really I was pleased and impressed that they too saw the advantage of communing with nature on a larger daily scale. (Where red boots probably aren't needed)

Saturday night's family do was quite good. Things I remember about it was my Mum's neighbour's surprise at meeting all the other siblings and discovering I am not an only child. Phillipa and John are much more cool than Mum and Peter-they go to gigs, they travel lots, they collect animals, they play records very loudly and think that my parents are shy.
The other sighting of the night was Stewart, who I don't think I've seen for two years. He was overseas, yes, he preferred Edinburgh to London, no, he didn't have lots of overseas girlfriends, no, he didn't get cracked onto by the local girls... Find that very hard to believe, I really do think that he has no idea of his appeal. He's managed to avoid a swift re-entry into ninetofive by working for someone with mining interests, first in the outback and now he has three weeks in Zambia. How exciting and exotic.

Other fun Adelaide experiences? All day tennis at Belair national park, meeting the nice teenage sons of a friend (wow, 13 year old and 15 year old boys you can talk to? Never knew any when I was that age), and being shown Lisa and James' copy of "Degrassi-where are they now?" book. Very funny. Lisa and James are OBSESSED with Degrassi

Tomorrow is kite flying on Semaphore beach with the kids and Pete and Meg, so I just can't wait.
