more talking and not that much doing

had my romantic long weekend away in Victoria. Twas nice to see lots of people, lots of interesting people, lots of beautiful people with multiple ethnicities. Victoria, or at least Melbourne, seems to be where our intellectual heart is, pushing the unions, the moderate philanthropic liberals, the arts, the radicals, the protests, the design, the community. Am in love with it again. But happy enough (I think) to visit only, not live there. Melbourne is awfully big...

Petra's parents house at Kinglake was great, got to see her parents coin and stamp shop, I don't love stamps to the extent that my grandad does, but have come to appreciate his interest in the tiny art forms of pictures, and what they are conveying about different countries and histories. Their shop is a hop, skip and jump away from the lovely lanes that cluster around Degraves Street and Little Flinders. P took me to Gopals for cheap eats and a downstairs second hand book shop where I picked up my airport reading, a book set in the late 70s New York upper west side; think The Royal Tennenbaums. She showed me her paintings, which were all done pre-Kinglake, and yet in her paintings of lilies and trees and glistening wet flowers, she neatly anticipate the greenery and views of her property. Missing the other half of Art Club...

Andy and I also found a good bookshop at Daylesford, where he bought a book about the Patpong culture and I am embarrassed to say I chose chick lit over art. Am still thinking about the superfluous characters and unintented (I think) loose ends of plot lines. Hmmm. Need to read better fiction, but I keep forgetting the names of books I am curious about (I think that's known as Reading List).

Here is a nice comment made by seagreen, in response to my questions about mediums for printing.

"I LOVE printmaking and will happily talk about it for hours. I would say what you are doing is wonderfully adaptive and fuelled by a creative spirit that can't help but bubble out - not amateur!
