My new favourite blogger
My 6 year old nephew has given his little 1 year old brother a few nicknames in his lifetime: Bubba, Chubba Bubba, Ashie and one that he is really hoping sticks: Ashmeister. HOw funny.
Why is attaching -meister to a name give it such a ring?
Speaking of words and lingo and people whose dialogue amuses me, I was completely estatic to attend a boxing day party in Adelaide and be reunited with Benny. Benny is the most genre specific music lover I know. Great amounts of passion are associated with his musical beliefs and he defined for us his current interest in progtronica; and his inability to put together a band in Melbourne (Something about lack of musical commitment and inability to share the vision). Last time I saw Benny was at a band launch in Duckworth's front room; he wore a full length black coat and caught the pop-culture appreciating eye of my friend LP. This time round he was wearing aviator sunglasses (yes, at night-time), except when he was really intently drawing a cartoon.
We were re-introduced by our mutual friend, Duckworth, who made the false claim that I'd been admiring Benny from affair by reading his blog.
"I haven't posted in for two months" says B.
"I haven't actually had a chance to read it yet" I say, "I dropped a very big hint that I'd like to but D didn't actually give me the address."
We discussed this disappointment and then Benny gave me his facebook name; naturally it's a part of his sometimes esoteric tastes and interests, (and to be truthful, Facebook is very mainstream and harder to mould to your esoteric tastes-it draws you into the more brain fluffy activities of trying to get the high score for Scrubs trivia or get vampire points) and is after a film character played by one of my favourite obscure dreamy American actors. I mentioned how much I liked the film he'd gained his nom de plume from (great dialogue, both unreal but faux-realistic) but didn't really leave with any kind of established idea about whether I am meant to "visit" him on facebook. Too funny. When really it's his blog I want to read.
