wedding
I had a compliment today. Someone I deal with said I sound completely organised and "on to it" at work and she couldn't believe I am getting married in only 4 days.
So I have officially decided to embrace this wedding thing and make sure I enjoy my remaining days and cancel whatever can be put off.
Things are going well, things are getting exciting. I am staying at a nice hotel on Friday night that I've been wanting to check out and meeting my friends at the Exeter beforehand for a token "last taste of freedom" drink.
Here is what NOT to watch before you get married:
He seemed quite concerned that I parked in a 10 minute zone ("I think it's 10 minutes now, we better get back") especially when I repeated it for our Central Markets excursion. We were only allowed to go straight to the ATM and straight to a likely milkshake outlet, and not look anywhere else.
I'd collected him from his morning soccer game at the park, his Dad made him sit in the backseat (another sign of stricter dad-parenting), and we swapped notes about that morning's game, his younger brother's AFL game (he kicked 3 goals), his upcoming pedal prix. I guess for him it was major conversation, because he is so self contained. When we returned to his Dad's house, it was empty and we had to wait for them to reappear. He played around with my phone, playing Daft Punk.
Ash told me off for folding up a yoga mat, "I need it" he told me, smoothing it out on the floor and then performing a neat somersault. "Wow, where did you learn that? Who taught you?" I asked. "No-one. I learned it myself" he told me, whilst his Mum coughed in the background. We had a lovely afternoon together. After I'd returned his brother home, I picked up A and he pedalled on his 3 wheeler down to the beach, descending a steep path with glee, yelling out "That was so fast!" The playground has had wide black rubber mat hammocks put in, I saw 2 roller bladers reclining in one, and was immensely excited to grab the other one. . A did a few laps of the playground on his bike, then joined me on our "boat" which we had to steer away from sharks, occasionally I had to drag him in from the sea, sometimes I had to encourage him to cycle faster away from the shark, finally I had to agree to accommodate his bike on our "island", frequently the boat rocked so much we "fell off". Great fun.
He came up with some baby names, which weren't too bad, and then we had a drink from the kiosk. I told him I loved him and he said he loved me too, then I pointed out the location of the restaurant where my reception is. He got excited and saw "Wow, your wedding is there!", hopeful I was actually getting married inside the tower. We crossed the road and I carried his bike whilst he climbed the stone steps up to the lawn adjacent to the tower. I explained again, that we would be in the restaurant, whilst he kept staring up at the tower. Then he pedalled furiously around the restaurant perimeter and contemplated a descent down a ramp. I persuaded him to wait until I reached the bottom (where I braced myself to stop a 3 year old on a bike) before he abandoned his plan and let the bike pedal downhill without him. Great glee again.
Next door, at the RSL, was a miniature train show. Actually it was quite cool and we watched a lot of trains pass by and took photographs. It was whilst replaying them speeded up, that A located the daft punk music and started dancing. Scary how a 3 year old can operate an iphone better than an adult. He also amused me by asking to eat a "qantas" or a "Crostie", which was him trying to remember the new food word of croissant. His enthusiasm for the baby and the wedding is just delightful.
And back on the baby front-had a meeting with my obstretician today. Still scared of course about all the things that could still go wrong (spina bifida, disability, stillborn, caeserean etc, on that scale, the caesarean is minor!), but actually so far everything is good. Haven't gained any weight, baby has a heart beat, my blood pressure is good.

Here is what NOT to watch before you get married:
- Series finale of THIS LIFE (Miles shags Anna the night before his wedding and realises he knows very little about his fiancee; Milly biffs Rachel at the reception)
- Mad Men-Pete cheats on his fiancee, Don Draper cheats on his wife repeatedly
