festival!

Did I mention it's the Adelaide Festival and Fringe? The clipsal v8 car race? Spirit Festival has just been, Womadelaide is on it's way. I could probably keep a list of things I'd like to go to but haven't and already can't/won't:

A mathemeticians comedy gig
The Vitalstatix theatre/dance piece
Men at Barrio late night club

But I have been to Baby Disco with Monski Mouse and the kids session at Writers Week-the enclave of parents with pre-schoolers. The kid reluctantly participated in the Nylon Zoo dress up parade, wearing a plastic coloured cape decorated with ribbons and webbing and other cool paraphenalia. He stuck out his bottom row of teeth in a disatisfied toddler way, which he does when he's dissatisfied, and let me hold his hand and make him walk. Then the walk finished, costumes were returned to the many standing posts (there were frogs! Rainbow capes, cockatoos) and a little girl with red hair and a fringe she or her mother may have cut themself, came up to me and asked if she could talk to my baby (this reminded me of the Farmers Markets last year when a similiarly aged girl asked if she could talk to my baby and informed me "I have a baby too! He's my brother! He's over there!" and I saw her "baby" brother operate an iPhone and quite likely take a picture of us. Another pointer). So, without correcting her that the kid is now a toddler, I cooperated and she attempted conversation with him and told me her name (first, middle and last name) and generally acted precocious cute.

Then I went and sat on the hill and listened to Kate Grenville talk about her university days, which was quite interesting, and then the plot of one of her books, which having not read, was less interesting> Kate is great, and I could have listened to her uni day stories for longer, but have had the privilege of reading her articles about them already. Whilst sitting on the lawn I spotted my manager, across a large crowd of people, sticking out because of his pink tshirt and trilby hat. So I texted him and told him to come and say hi. He replied, within a minute, telling me he was at the airport and NOT AT WRITERS WEEK. How embarrassment. I decided to go and investigate his doppelganger, and was quite amused to discover that it was actually an acquaintance of mine, who is definitely a cultural/lifestyle doppelganger as well as in appearance. He was sitting with his neighbours, my friends, and we all hooked up to visit the Helpmann Academy exhibition. Their daughter, who is 1 year on fron the kid, interpreted some of his baby language for me. "He said DUCK!" and they played chasey together and it was very cute and then later on she cried when she thought her little friend was going to shut the piano lid (still scattered around the place from COME OUT FESTIVAL last year.

So festival time, is very nice. As is sleep time.
