Mean teens
I procrastinated like crazy about the school reunion, then booked a B&B. The owner wrote "funnily enough, our son is coming back for that reunion-do you remember R?"
What to say-classmate, who used to be funny and then wind changed whilst he was scowling and left him with a perma-sneer on his face. Husband said I should take the high road, let bygones be bygones, ask endless questions about his romantic history to make him feel inadequate. As it turned out, he wears berets, rollerskates, votes Green.
Our year level specialised in egotistical guys who asserted alpha male inadequacies in a way that left the girls hostage. It's hard to reconcile this nowadays. I enjoy my teen nephews, find their behaviour easy to manage/cope with. It's the teen girls who can still make me cry. Rachel said in the episode of 30 Rock when Liz Lemon goes to her high school reunion ('but they're all mean'), Liz discovers everyone remembers HER as the mean person. Rachel made me list all the mean things I did at school (mocking and pranking my Year Six teacher for not being able to control my behaviour; nicknaming a hyperactive kid "Mucus" to rhyme with his surname; rolling my eyes at the nerds in my primary school orchestra. Even at boarding school I was mean. I could give it but not take it. Harsh mirror to look into. W
