Obama Election
Oh! It's true.
So today, history was made. Obama was elected. All today, from about lunch time, there was commentary at work: from colleagues, from patients. After work, there were comments from my grand parents, parents and on-line from friends. How much we appreciate the communality, the theatre, the emotional connection that comes when a consensus of people make a decision that we individually make. It is nice to be part of a like minded crowd.
It is also weird to think of how we pin all our hopes on one person, to have one leader responsible for so much, want them to be perfect, super human, able to carry the responsibilites and hero worship of so many; with the need for heroism recorded from the classical era. So if history was made with him, I look forward to history with a female president too, one day.
My work day was more enjoyable today. I am an emotional person and things that piss me off, get to me. I am gradually learning where I am more inclined to be emotional than another person and some things I can do to slow down the emotions or react better. It's hard. I also try and remember and collect the compliments I get: for being patient, supportive, balanced, fair and so forth. But yesterday was just never going to be a day when I could concentrate easily. I admire people who can maintain their stamina through marriage break ups and sickness-I show my emotions far more than that.
Anyway, I survived my emotions, hung out with crew and even managed to express an opinion that I thoroughly believed in without caring too much if it was supported by my colleagues (on the importance of paying back money that parents lend to you in adulthood-who wants to give up this moral highground and be dependent on their parents past 21?)
